How to Store Dehydrated Powders for Maximum Shelf Life

Dehydrated vegetable and fruit powders are shelf-stable because almost all of their water has been removed. Their biggest enemy, then, is moisture — followed by heat, light and air. Store them well and a good powder keeps its colour and aroma for up to a year.

Five simple storage rules

  • Keep it sealed. Reseal the pack tightly, or decant into an airtight jar, immediately after each use.
  • Stay cool and dry. A cupboard away from the stove, sink and windows is ideal. Avoid humid spots.
  • Out of direct sunlight. Light slowly fades natural colour and degrades nutrients.
  • Use a dry spoon. Never dip a wet spoon into the pack — even a little moisture causes clumping.
  • First in, first out. Use older stock before newer stock, and note the best-before date on each pack.

How long do they last?

As a general guide, KAC AGRO powders are best used within 12 months of the packing date when stored as above. Natural products vary slightly in colour and aroma between batches — that is a sign of a genuine, additive-free powder, not a defect.
